why is my child's speech delayed?
There are many possible causes for delayed or disordered speech or language skills. Some causes are known, for example a speech disorder that is secondary to another disability, while other disorders have no known cause (e.g. why can't my child say their "r" sound?) and might be developmental in nature. Some disorders, such as stuttering, very likely have a genetic etiology. Speech disorders could result from neonatal problems, structural deficits, neurological dysfunction, hearing difficulties, genetic disorders, and more.
